The Lotus comprised of 2 chassis; the first carrying the body sidepods, wings and radiators were intended to soak up irregularities in the road and improve aero dynamics. The second chassis carried the engine, gearbox, suspension and driver. The first chassis floated on the second, similar to a trucks "sprung cab." However, FIA regulations rendered the car illegal, as they felt the car controvended the sliding skirts regulation.
