Rover Engine

The standard engine is very suitable for tuning and therefore a lot of suppliers are active on the market.
You can find parts on the internet or at your local dealer.

Lotus 135bhp
The kit will comprise a brand new ported and gas flowed cylinder head complete with valves and tappets etc together with a new aluminium inlet manifold and plenum, air filter housing modification kit and a re-programmed exchange ECM plus boot bulkhead blister panel (to clear the inlet manifold), revised pop-up boot latch (ditto) and sport 135 decals(!) The kit does not include a sports exhaust

PTP 140bhp
Power and Torque figures achieved with Janspeed Supersport rear silencer, sports catalyst and ITG air box induction system. Deviation from these parameters may result in a different performance level. The 140 performance package can be supplied in a Cylinder head kit form or as a fully built, hot tested engine configuration. The engine is SVA emissions compliant when used with standard or PTP sports catalyst converter. The engine delivers increased power and torque with improved driveability and throttle response. It, however, maintains the standard engine management system and controls strategies to maintain all service and diagnostic functionality. The core of the package is a finely tuned cylinder head focusing not on metal removal for maximum air flow but port chamber modifications to maximise the efficiency of the combustion process. The PTP Cast Inlet manifold with increased plenum volume capacity is also used for optimum performance. Power 140 Ps @6500rpm Torque 133lb ft @5000rpm

  • PTP modified cylinder head.
  • Cast Inlet manifold with increased plenum capacity.
  • Standard camshafts and valve gear maintained.
  • Standard Rover MEMS ECU maintained.
  • All service and diagnostic functionality maintained.
  • 140 Ps performance based upon the 1.8i engine.
  • Day-to-Day driveability maintained.
  • SVA emission compliant when used with the standard or PTP sports catalyst.
  • 12 months manufacturing defect warranty.

Janspeed 150bhp Janspeed’s experience with tuning the K-Series engine is shown with the new highly acclaimed performance kit for the Series Two Lotus Elise. Called the J205, the package is designed to fit the non-VVC Elise. The performance kit comprises of a flow-bench developed cylinder head, a free flowing 4-2-1 tubular exhaust manifold, a stainless steel sports catalyst and sports exhaust system, plus a sports induction kit enabling the package to raise peak power from 102bhp at the wheels to a healthy 128bhp. This translates to 150bhp at the flywheel. The J205 performance kit increase torque by a very impressive 25%, allowing the engine to produce a healthy 145Ibft.

  • Cold Air Carbon Fibre Induction System
  • Tuned Length Stainless Steel 4-2-1 Manifold
  • Sports Catalyst
  • Stainless Steel Exhaust System
  • 150 Spec Cylinder Head Conversion

Thielert 180bhp Any Elise engine can be converted to 180 HP, including the standard Elise, the Elise 111 S (VVC-engine). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4,9 seconds. Top speed is 225 km/h (140 mph). After the conversion the Elise develops more torque than it's parent unit, climbing smoothly through the whole rev band to a maximum of 190 Nm at 6000 rpm. The engine reaches its maximum power of 132 kW (180 HP) at 7500 rpm. The rev limiter rpm has been increased from 7000 rpm to 7800 rpm. Thanks to the newly developed Electronic Control Unit, the car doesn't loose any of its everyday-driveability with the Thielert power-upgrade. In order to avoid harmful vibrations, a new torsional damper was designed. The conversion meets the Euro 3 Exhaust Emission Standard.

  • new cylinder head,
  • new air intake
  • sport exhaust
  • ports are widened up and polished for improved airflow.
  • modified valves, valve seats and valve guides
  • new intake plenum and a new exhaust manifold.
  • newly developed camshaft with an improved cam profile and a torsional damper to eliminate harmful crankshaft vibrations which occur at higher revs.
  • The Thielert ECU (Engine Control Unit) with the corresponding software has control over the new distributorless ignition system and the injection system.

The conversion comes with a one year warranty and unlimited mileage on the engine.

Bell & Colvill have been Lotus dealers for over four decades, and are well aware of the desire of the clientele to own a Lotus that goes a little further in terms of style and finish, and needless to say, a little faster in terms of acceleration and handling. In the past the Lotus factory were able to offer these extra special cars as in the Lotus Elite Super 95 and the Lotus Super 7. However, with the increasingly stringent regulations for emission and noise control, it is very difficult for any motor manufacturer to offer anything other than the standard car. Take a look on there website to find out there tuning kits.

Turbo Technics Turbo Technics use a new design of centrifugal supercharger for the supercharged Elise. Although it is belt driven, the unit avoids the heavy power losses associated with traditional superchargers. In the spirit of the Elise concept, the Turbo Technics manufactured Geotec supercharger is lightweight and compact. As such, it is mounted within the existing engine bay without compromising luggage space. Tuning kits are available between 190bhp and 230bhp for the 111 version. The only 'disadvantage'is the fitting time witch takes 10 days.
